This position reports to the Head of Market Sales within the CIB Markets function in the country. This is a management role that requires the holder to be a mature member of the CIB Markets sales team, in a customer-oriented relationship management role.

The purpose of the role

  1. Actively participate as a member of the CIB Markets Sales functions team;
  2. To become the preferred point of contact both externally and internally for the provision of derivative products for sale to the market;
  3. Become the bridge between corporate, commercial, and market interests for market products, strategies, and regulated solutions;
  4. Explore and develop business opportunities in the Market Sales department and specifically offer risk management products;
  5. Balanced interaction with the other two main areas of CIB Markets to drive the trading strategy of the markets.
  6. Main responsibilities and approximate time division



Basic tasks

  • Manage a portfolio of clients to offer market risk management products by offering and understanding clients (including internal clients);
  • Sales of products and technology, including foreign exchange, investment, and risk management products in Africa
  • Negotiate with clients directly as required;
  • Develop close contacts with CIB, business relationship managers, and clients;
  • Promote the expansion and penetration of the CIB Markets business in customer segments such as RBB and corporate and expand the customer base;
  • Meet various mandate size and profitability targets;
  • Ensuring that Absa Group Limited (AGL) policies and procedures and relevant credit limits are adhered to at all times;
  • Identify gaps in personal knowledge and ensure that there is a self-training and development plan;
  • Assist the Head of Market Sales in compiling an annual strategic action plan for the markets and ensure that regular monthly performance feedback is available.

  • 2 years of banking experience, 1 of which must be in a global market environment;

  • Good general knowledge of other banking products, particularly structured trade and trade finance, and commercial banking products;
  • General knowledge of commercial banking products.

  • Understand the particular role in the end-to-end operations in which you play a role, including the applicable risks and controls.

  • Report all risk-related events/incidents/problems using the process specific to your work area and help understand why they occur and how to prevent them in the future.

Required knowledge
