As the Regional Director for Gender, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI), you will lead transformative activities and inspire change across the region by challenging current practices, creating a space for bottom-up learning and impact. Learning from countries and regions to advise on global GEDI policy and practice, you will build and implement - with a broad consultative approach - a regional GEDI action plan by developing the IRC GEDI Global Action Plan and aligning it with the intersecting feminist aspirations of IRC, DEI's global strategic initiative and through Building on previous work, including the Gender Action Plan.
The GEDI Director role includes:
1. Develop and lead activities to enhance the inclusion and belonging of marginalized and underrepresented employees in the region by harnessing global resources and innovating local GEDI resources. This includes support for nationwide employee resource groups (eg W @ W), GEDI regional working groups, and/or GEDI-related regional communities of practice.
2. Collaborate with regional and country leadership to increase representation of underrepresented groups among staff, especially at the leadership level (Class 6 and above).
3. Work with relevant technical advisors to support transformational programming and customer response as it relates to GEDI.
The position will be responsible for supporting regional and country teams in implementing the IRC GEDI Action Plan, and guiding regional colleagues and country offices in the application of GEDI principles in all operational policies and practices. The GEDI Regional Director will work with the Regional Human Resources Director to help state employees set and achieve substantive and purposeful goals for more equitable internal practices. The position will be responsible for designing and implementing GEDI training and leading office-wide initiatives to spark internal culture change and a global understanding of equal practices in the workplace. They will also support technical advisors (TAs) to adapt or develop tools to support analysis and program design for country offices and support staff in applying these methods in their work.
Main responsibilities
1. Development of GEDI Regional Action Plans
Measure of success: The region has a clear contextual plan and budget corresponding to GEDI activities with buy-in from relevant collaborators.
The GEDI Regional Director is responsible for contextualizing the GEDI Global Action Plan in consultation with regional and country leadership. they will be:
Work with country and regional collaborators to identify GEDI regional priorities including:
Country and regional representation and inclusion gaps for the region and timely development of goals and targets to address them.
Country and regional foundational policies, capacities and infrastructure to promote inclusion and belonging in the region.
Country and regional program direction to enhance transformational programming and customer responsiveness from a GEDI perspective.
Synthesize the identified priorities into a regional action plan in consultation with relevant stakeholders and consider how best to support SAP-IP commitments in the region.
Develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation/accountability framework to measure progress against targets set in the RAP.
In consultation with regional and global collaborators, develop and manage the GEDI Regional Action Plan budget, drawing on global and regional funds and from GEDI earmarked for regional activities.
Drive the implementation of the regional GEDI Action Plan in collaboration with regional and country collaborators.
2. Team leadership and employee engagement
The GEDI Regional Director is responsible for:
Mobilize employee resource groups (ERGs, including W@W) and community of practice (CoPs, including GEDI and GEDI working groups) as agents of change in the cultural transformation required for an inclusive and enabling work environment.
Lead the COP and provide technical guidance to increase their impact and influence
Work with ERGs to enhance their role and representation on the GEDI Global Council.
Develop and support the implementation of action plans at the country level with ERP groups and party representatives
Allocate resources to operationalize activities at the country/regional level led by emergency response groups and/or engagement groups
Recruit and lead GEDI-focused consultancy when needed.
Engage with peers to coordinate and share learning across CRRD .'s six regional GEDI working groups
3. Technical guidance of leadership
The GEDI Regional Director is responsible for leading thought and providing guidance on GEDI matters through:
Participation in the regional environmental management team.
Act as a resource, thought partner and evaluator for GEDI's progress in the region.
Build consensus and support changes needed to enhance GEDI's operations and programs.
Advise on GEDI integration into country-level strategy frameworks including SAP and SAP IPs.
Advise on GEDI integration in the region and sometimes (based on coordination with regional leadership and technical assistance) develop and implement programs at country level using IRC Program Quality Frameworks.
Work with global and regional technical advisors to ensure GEDI is integrated into guidance, tools, and software development opportunities.
Lead GEDI programmatic analyzes where and when needed to improve program delivery for marginalized communities, working closely with technical assistance.
Work with regional and country human resources, science and technology, protect partners to address context-specific gaps and challenges in GEDI.
Act as a hub of GEDI knowledge for regional and country teams to provide technical knowledge and expertise, to monitor new practices, and to document results.
Integrate GEDI Priority into IRC Advocacy and external communication efforts as appropriate
Main business relationships:
Direct Reports: Head of GEDI and RVP
Indirect Reporting: Partnership and Consulting: Regional Human Resources Manager, Regional Safety and Security Manager, Deputy Regional Director, other sectoral and technical advisors including women protection and empowerment. Depending on the need identified by the region, work with senior management teams nationwide including the Country Director, Deputy Director of Programs, and Deputy Director of Operations and Protection.
External: IRC's organizational partners, donors, IASC Cluster Groups, and the Women's Network. D&I-focused organizations, human rights groups, LGBTQI+ groups, etc.
Work requirements
Education: Postgraduate degree or additional years of work experience
Work Experience: 6+ years of relevant experience which includes:
Directing experience in leadership and influencing organizational partners to embrace and embrace diversity, equity and cross-inclusion processes as core to all programs and activities.
Experience of leadership and change management support to establish an inclusive work culture.
At least two years in the humanitarian and/or international development sector.
At least two years of experience in one or more countries in the specified region.
Experience in formulating and implementing regional and sub-regional strategies according to organizational priorities, considering a variety of country contexts.
Experience building communities of practice
Demonstrate skills and competencies:
Deep commitment and knowledge of strategies to promote diversity, equality and inclusion; Proven experience in integrating feminist and gender perspectives and ensuring equal participation in the workplace.
Demonstrable understanding of how power dynamics affect organizations and the ability to amplify the voices of individuals from underrepresented groups.
Knowledge and ability to speak fluently about the existing and required evidence of how to achieve meaningful change for women, girls, and other historically underrepresented groups in the development and humanitarian contexts.
The ability to engage, motivate and influence people outside the direct line of management.
Strong, concise and persuasive written communication skills and excellent public speaking skills
A receptive and collaborative approach that contributes to a positive team environment; Builds and maintains strong relationships with people of all backgrounds, races, cultures and viewpoints.

Language Skills:
Excellent spoken and written English
Proficiency in at least one language spoken in the region (French, Swahili, etc.)
Work environment
