SHDEPHA + Kahama was awarded by PACT Tanzania to implement the ACHIEVE project in Msalala DC, Ushetu DC, and Kahama TC located in Shinyanga District, Tanzania. Reducing, Empowering, and Eliminating HIV in Adolescents and Children (ACHIEVE) is a five-year global effort to control and sustain the HIV epidemic among pregnant and lactating women, adolescents, infants, and children. The project is funded by the United States. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by a Compact-led coalition of leading global HIV/AIDS partners, including Jhpiego, Palladium, No Means No Worldwide, and WI-HER. These core partners are supported by a network of global and local strategic resource partners. The Milestones Program focuses on PEPFAR priority countries in Africa and the Caribbean. The ACHIEVE Consortium works with USAID missions, national governments, and existing response partners to identify gaps in HIV prevention and treatment programs among target populations. Using best practices and experience along with innovations, the project addresses critical gaps in achieving country-specific epidemiological control goals. ACHIEVE is USAID's leading initiative to address the needs of children, youth, and lactating women with HIV.

This includes supporting local organizations to serve these populations and ultimately build their capacity to receive the United States directly. Government financing of large-scale programs. The project harnesses the full power of its consortia and relevant stakeholders in the public and private sectors to help countries gain and maintain control of the HIV epidemic. In Tanzania, beginning in October 2021, ACHIEVE expects to receive funding from USAID to support and support HIV prevention programs targeting orphans, children at risk (OVC), and adolescent girls and young women, through DREAMS (Designed, Designed, Resilient, Enabled, AIDS-Free, Managed and Safe).

ACHIEVE Tanzania's goal is to strengthen local organizations, national and community-level social welfare systems, structures, and workforces to support and maintain OVC access to comprehensive HIV services that support their health and well-being.

The Tanzania Achievements Program has three strategic objectives:

  1. Strengthen the capacity of the national and community social welfare workforce, systems, and structures to ensure high-quality services for orphans, vulnerable children
  2. Manage and support the delivery of family and community-centered OVC and DREAMS services.
  3. Increased use of OVC platforms, to detect HIV cases in children and link them to treatment and suppression of the virus.
  4. Increased access to HIV prevention and violence prevention services among orphans, children, and vulnerable youth
  5. Improving the socio-economic capacity of caregivers in AGYW and OVC at risk
  6. With this, SHDEPHA + Kahama is looking for competent, experienced, dynamic, and qualified candidates to fill the following position:


Job Title; Project Accountant (1 position - internal and external candidates)

Location: Kahama Township

Reports to: Program Manager and Program Accountant (delivery)

Contract duration: 12 months (renewable)


work descriptions:

The Project Accountant will support the Finance Department to coordinate and supervise the financial activities of a research project. S/She will provide daily project financial technical work, strict adherence to financial regulations, and grant compliance requirements during program implementation. You will ensure that daily, weekly and quarterly financial reports are prepared and submitted in a timely manner, as well as accounting reports and documents, including cash books, pay stubs, bank reconciliation statements, budget compliance reports, and any other reports financial that the ACHIEVE project may require.

Functions and responsibilities

  • Prepare financial documents such as invoices, bills of exchange, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
  • complete purchase orders
  • Management of payroll
  • Complete financial reports periodically and provide information to the finance team.
  • Assist in budget planning and reviews.
  • Complete bank reconciliations
  • Enter financial information into the appropriate programs
  • Management of daily transactions.
  • Record the expenses of the project and make sure that these expenses are within the specified budget limits.
  • Assist the finance department and senior accounting staff with various tasks including preparing budgets, records, and statements.
  • Processing of accruals and prepayments
  • Review computer reports for accuracy and accurately trace errors back to their source
  • Handling errors in financial reporting and correcting erroneous reporting methods


Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
  • Possession of a professional accounting qualification such as CPA or ACCA
  • At least three (3) years of experience working with donor-funded projects
  • The professional certification holder is an added bonus.
  • Must have computer skills
  • Knowledge of accounting packages will be an added bonus.
  • Numerical, confidential, detailed, proactive, and teamwork skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and work within deadlines
