DePOT Ph.D. scholarships are currently ongoing and offered at Swansea University. In this article, we will discuss more about the scholarship, its worth, eligibility, and application process.

The Department of History, Heritage and Classics at Swansea University is pleased to offer a three-year full-time Ph.D. Fellowship in the history or legacy of deindustrialization starting in October 2022. All successful candidates will be part of the international research team that will be part of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of the Association for Deindustrialization and the Politics of Our Time, funded by Canada (Repository).

The project includes 33 partner organizations and 24 participating candidates and collaborators from six countries in Western Europe and North America. The Association explores the historical roots and lived experience of deindustrialization and the political responses to it.

The general objective is to understand deindustrialization in a comparative and transnational approach, its effects, responses, legacies, and causes. 

All students will become Associate Members of DePOT and possibly members of the Center for Heritage Research and Training (CHART) at Swansea University and are also expected to be actively involved in the logical life of the department and the larger DePOT project. 

The student will be led by Dr. Hilary Orange and department staff with the research skills most suited to a Ph.D. Qualification. 

The student will also benefit from assistance and advice through annual project seminars and regular events for scholars who are part of the DePOT Collective.


Note that all university student researchers receive a research allowance for presentations at conferences and research trips, and are members of the university's Graduate Center which provides office space and IT facilities, holds an annual conference, and runs a training program and skills workshops.

Doctor. Students will also benefit from training, skills, and professional development workshops throughout the university. The university strives to enhance the employability of PGRs by providing teaching and placement opportunities and opportunities to engage in career and other networking activities.

DePOT Fully Funded Ph.D. scholarships

DePOT Ph.D. The scholarships cover the full cost of UK tuition fees and an annual stipend of £15,609 for 3 years.

Eligibility for a fully funded DePOT doctoral degree. scholarships

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must have a 2.1 bachelor's and master's degree with an overall average grade in "merit". On the other hand, each candidate will be deemed to have a UK First Class Honors or non-UK equivalent as established by Swansea University and not hold a Master's degree on an individual basis.

To be eligible for a Ph.D. For scholarships, each applicant must have met the university's English language requirements, such as IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.5 in each component, depending on the point of application.

Please note that this scholarship is open to eligible candidates to pay tuition fees at the UK rate only, as defined by UKCISA regulations.
