NBC is the oldest serving bank in Tanzania with over five decades of experience. We offer a range of banking products and services for wealth management, retail, commercial, corporate, and investments. The bank's origins go back to 1967 when the Tanzanian government nationalized all financial institutions, including banks. In 1991, the banking industry was changed six years later. In 2000, the South African financial services group Absa Group Limited acquired a majority stake in NBC. The government of Tanzania retained 30% of the shares, while the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, acquired 15% of the shares in the bank. The new entity became known as NBC Limited.
