In the 2011-12 school year, California State University awarded 52 percent of California's newly issued teaching credentials, state bachelor's degrees in information technology, 47 percent of state engineering degrees, and 28 they had more graduates in business (50 percent), agriculture (72 percent), communication studies, health (53 percent), education, and public administration (52 percent) than any other California college and university combined.

 Nearly half of the bachelor's degrees, one-third of the master's degrees, and almost 2% of the doctoral degrees awarded annually in California are from the university. The university system is among the best in the United States. Graduate producers who go on to obtain a Ph.D. Degrees in a related field.

California State University has a total of 17 AACSB-accredited graduate schools of business, more than twice the number of any other undergraduate system. Since 1961, nearly three million graduates have earned bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degrees from the university system.

The university offers more than 1,800-degree programs in nearly 240 subject areas. In the fall of 2015, 9,282 (or 39 percent) of California State University's 24,405 faculty were hired or on the way. California State University offers more than 70,000 degrees each year, awarding 46% of state bachelor's degrees and 32% of state master's degrees.

However, the 23-campus system supports about 150,000 jobs statewide, generating nearly $1 billion in tax revenue. The university is the state's largest source of teachers, with more than half of the state's newly certified teachers coming from the university, increasing the state's teacher ratio by approximately 12,500 annually.
